Welcome to Spoony Stories ❤️🥄 Our community on Spoony is the greatest! It's such a pleasure to get to know some of the people who make Spoony so wonderful and learning more about their experiences with neurodivergence, chronic illness and disability.
This week, we've been chatting with Amanda from New Zealand. She opens up about what it's like to be neurodivergent, why Spoony is important to her, and much more! ♥️
Are you neurodivergent, chronically ill, and/or disabled?
Neurodivergent.
What health conditions do you have?
ADHD, Autism and Auditory Processing Disorder (APD).
How do you explain your health conditions to other people?
I find it really difficult. Having APD makes it hard to communicate generally and it impacts everyday situations like going on the bus and having conversations face to face.
What impact do your health conditions have on your daily life?
It's a struggle. I find it tough to hold conversations because of brain fog and sometimes I go non-verbal.
What barriers have you experienced in making friends and connecting with people?
So many barriers! Sometimes I can be too honest, I say things how it is, and I think it scares people off. I can be shy at first, but I get comfortable and I end up being too loud as I don't notice how 'into' it I get.
What's been your experience on Spoony so far?
Being in the Spoony community has been a joy, I've found some great friends! I like being part of a welcoming community filled with people I can relate to. Thank you Spoony!
