Spoony Stories - meet Caitlin! 👋

Welcome to Spoony Stories ❤️🥄 We adore our lovely community on Spoony! It's such a joy getting to know some of the lovely people who make Spoony so darn wonderful and learning more about their experiences with neurodivergence, chronic illness and disability.

This week, we've been chatting with Caitlin from the United States. She shares about her experiences balancing her health and career, why she's grateful for Spoony, and much more! ♥️

Are you neurodivergent, chronically ill, and/or disabled?

Chronically ill, neurodivergent and disabled.

What health conditions do you have?

ADHD, Kidney transplant, Gastroparesis, chronic joint and muscle pain, and fatigue

How do you explain your health conditions to other people?

I explain that I'm a medical mess. I live in constant pain and my body doesn't always cooperate. I'm often lightheaded and dizzy, I'm forever nauseous and battling brain fog.

What impact do your health conditions have on your daily life?

I lost the career that I loved because of my health, I was on track to become a lab tech but my health went downhill and I never completely recovered. I'm always fatigued and have to save all my energy for important tasks like work. The pain makes me irritable so I have to put my energy into not being rude. It's quite draining, especially since I mask my ADHD most of the time.

What barriers have you experienced in making friends and connecting with people?

Making friends is hard work because people just don't seem to understand. They think that I'm unreliable, but I can't control my body.

What's been your experience on Spoony so far?

I'm so glad that I've found Spoony. It shows that I'm not alone and that there are other people who know what it's like.

Each week, we share stories from the incredible Spoony community in our newsletter, podcast, and on social media. Share your story with us.
